Nutrition, built for how Kenyans actually eat

Mwili AI started as a simple question: why does every calorie-tracking app feel like it was built for someone else's kitchen?

01

Why we're building this

Mwili AI is built by a solo developer with a software background. Like a lot of people trying to eat better or put on weight, I tried the popular calorie-tracking apps out there — including Cal AI — but they weren't built for Kenyan food. Logging a plate of ugali, sukuma, or githeri meant guessing which foreign substitute came closest, or getting numbers that were just wrong. That gap is what led to building Mwili AI: a tracker that actually understands the food on a Kenyan plate.

02

The gap we saw

Most nutrition apps are built around foreign food databases, foreign portion sizes, and card payments that don't work for most Kenyans. We built the food database, the pricing, and the payment flow around how people actually eat and pay here.

03

Built lean, on purpose

We validated Mwili AI with a capital-efficient build so early resources go where they matter — the Kenyan food and meal database, meal-plan logic tuned to local budgets, and a seamless M-Pesa payment flow — not boilerplate infrastructure. As we grow, we're planning our path to a fully custom-built platform to scale further.
